Dereham Town manager Matty Henman is anticipating exciting times for the Magpies who kick off their Ridgeons Premier season at Leiston on Saturday looking to improve on their fourth-place finish last campaign. On Tuesday night they entertain Wisbech.

He hopes that non-regulars will have been impressed enough by the performance against a Norwich City XI pre-season to go along to Aldiss Park to watch the Magpies in regular league action.

He feels he has a better-balanced squad now and has been really pleased with pre-season form and at the way new signings have settled in.

On Saturday Dereham drew 1-1 with Essex Senior League outfit Barking, Danny Beaumont's third-minute strike cancelled out in the 6oth minute.

Henman is really pleased with the form of local players and is looking for them to force their way into regular first team action.

One downside has been the knee injury to Adam Gusterson, which will need an operation and will sideline him for a long period. He intends to stay involved through the coaching side while he recovers.
