GOLF: Andrew Marshall doubled his earnings for the season as he recorded an encouraging sixth place finish in the Kazakhstan Open in Almaty on Sundayy.

A maiden Challenge Tour victory proved beyond the Dereham player, who had gone into the weekend as joint leader after a memorable round of 63 on Friday.

But he played steady golf on the final two days of the big money event, recording rounds of 71 and 70 to finish on 13 under par, seven shots behind eventual winner Edoardo Molinari of Italy who finished 66, 68.

That was good enough for Marshall to pick up by far his biggest cheque of the season - around 14,500 - and move up to 28th position in the order of merit with just under 30,000 to his name.
