MATTISHALL produced their best fielding performance of the season to give them a chance of staving off relegation. In a game that Mattishall had to win, their bowlers produced a wonderful display to bowl out their opponents Stow for just 72.

Stow struggled to 37-7 at the drinks break. Openers Nathan Gostling (2-15) and Mark Fordham (4-20) bowled with excellent control aided by some wonderful fielding

When the bowlers were changed Tom Spalding (2-19) and Keith Hubbard (1-12) kept the pressure on. The last batsman was run out in the 32nd over which allowed Mattishall 60 overs to reach their target of 73.

The chase was never going to be easy with Stow's overseas star Mahwire opening the bowling. In an unexpected change to the order Richard Gostling was given the responsibility of opening the batting. He and Mark Stokes put on 27 but after a bit of a collapse Mattishall needed 31 runs with just five wickets left.

Responsible batting from Paul Beaumont and N Gostling ensured Mattishall won by four wickets with 34 overs to spare.

They have just the Stanley Easter-sponsored match against already relegated Beccles to play and players are calling for support for the team in a push for survival.
