Sprowston left Mattishall in trouble near the bottom of Norfolk Alliance Division One after beating them by five wickets.

Uzal Hossain returned figures of 2-25 as Mattishall made 137-9.

Neil Lockwood then claimed 3-32, but Danny Palmer hit 44 to steer Sprowston home.

In Norfolk League Division Four, a heavy downpour put Mattishall A's clash with Rocklands in doubt due to the water accumulating on either side of the covered wicket. But some mopping up with towels and a delayed start allowed the game to go ahead.

Mattishall lost the toss and were asked to bat first.

The Rocklands attack bowled accurately and, coupled with the wet outfield, curtailed Mattishall's scoring.

M Gostling was first to go, caught as he tried to increase the scoring rate, at 31 off 17 overs.

A Pulsford (44) and M Stokes (32) added 59 in 14 overs before three wickets fell quickly to leave Mattishall on 94-4 with only 32 overs left.

I Mayers (14) supported skipper K Bingham well to add 37 at five an over, but the remaining batsmen could not score above this rate as Mattishall closed out on 159-7 with Bingham out on the penultimate ball for a run-a-ball 46.

Opening bowlers Talbot and Jack Grant both found ample movement when Rocklands replied but could not sustain the accuracy required as too many boundary balls were bowled.

The theme continued with the change bowlers. Mattishall's first success came from another good ball from Talbot, Abel being well caught one-handed by Pulsford at slip.

This was quickly followed by another superb catch, this time by John Grant at full stretch on the boundary to dismiss the hard-hitting Dunning for 31.

At this point the bowling attack fell apart with too many short balls being despatched to the boundary as Rocklands raced towards their target with 53 scored in only five overs.

Mark Stokes and John Grant were brought into the attack with a Rocklands win looking a certainty but they did manage to pick up a further wicket each in an improvement to the previous bowling.

This could not cover up the poor performance by Mattishall in the field, as shown by the fact that Rocklands passed their target in only the 31st over.
