(Blofield win 8-7 on penalties)

On Monday Mattishall met Blofield in the final of the Mummery Cup at a blustery Wroxham and just failed to add the trophy to the Norfolk Senior Cup they collected at Carrow Road.

Blofield had the wind advantage in the first half and they took the lead on 10 minutes when Mattishall lost possession

in midfield. When the rebound fell to Brown, he laid the ball into the path of McKail who slid his shot under the advancing keeper Pledger.

A fine piece of footwork by Catchpole saw him create some space, and his cross just failed to find Wooden's head.

A free-kick in a good position led to Hewitt making keeper Lloyd into a save.

However, Blofield nearly increased their lead when a cross by Mckail saw Brown create a fine opening, but Anema made a last-ditch saving tackle. Following a couple of efforts full-back Adcock, only three yards out, fired over the bar and Mattishall went into the break trailing.

The second half started very slowly but gradually Mattishall began to turn the screw. Lewis had an effort that flew narrowly wide then Hewitt's strike was easily saved after Wooden's flick had created the chance.

With 15 minutes remaining Cole and Sommerfield replaced Lewis and Hewitt, and with virtually his first touch Cole rattled the post with Lloyd well beaten.

Edwards was the next to have an effort just miss the target, but on 80 minutes Mattishall drew level.

Following a fine piece of skill by Catchpole, his deep cross was cleared as far as Palmer whose crisp strike hit the back of the net.

In the dying minutes Fulcher, under pressure, failed to clear and Brown missed a glorious opportunity before the game went into extra time.

Mattishall continued with the wind in their favour and a Lovell free-kick saw Wooden win the ball, and it dropped Wooden scooped it into the roof of the net to put Mattishall 2-1 up.

The same player who could have made the game safe when he combined with Sommerfield. Having burst through, his touch let him down and the ball went out for a goal kick.

Mattishall in the second period of extra time had some defending to do as Blofield pushed forward. With four minutes remaining a corner kick set up the substitute for a looping header which beat Pledger, who was slightly of his line.

The game went to a penalty shoot out. Luke Catchpole and Michael Sommerfield followed Blofield's early efforts and then Blofield missed, only for skipper Jimmy Lovell's effort to be well saved.

Blofield then scored with their next five kicks and Daniel Palmer, Andrew Fulcher, Simon Wooden and Tim Hill followed suit - only for Jason Cole's spot-kick to be well saved by Lloyd as Mattishall suffered the heartache of defeat.

It was a reverse of the position at Carrow Road only three weeks earlier when the shoot-out delivered them the Senior Cup.
