AGAINST the Norfolk Senior Cup finalists Mattishall narrowly lost another crucial match.

This was another must-win fixture for the club's survival in the Anglian Combination top flight.

However, the Shannocks did not hold back ahead of their Carrow Road appearance as they went into a half-time two-goal lead.

Mattishall could not contain their lively opponents as their football was much more precise as they took their goals.

Mattishall played a lot better in the second period but it was a somewhat fortunate goal that got them back into the match. A drop ball took place almost on the halfway line with Gary Starling thumping it back to the Sheringham keeper. However the ball bounced high in front of him, over his head and into the net. The referee had no choice but to award the goal which opened the match up with several chances being created by both teams.

Sheringham hung on for all three points, leaving Mattishall to rue their missed chances.

With three matches to play, survival now looks a tall order, however if the lads stay determined, and with the right attitude, it might happen.

Mattishall Reserves travelled to Oulton Broad & Notleys and lost 4-0.

With the home team in second position in Division Three of the Anglian Combination it looked a very daunting day ahead for the struggling Mattishall second string.

On the hour mark it was still all square with no goals scored. Mattishall were holding firm against a very good attacking team, frustrating them in all departments.

It took a lapse of concentration to let in the home team to score their first goal, and then the gates opened as two more were scored in quick succession.

The last goal was scored in the dying minutes.

Mattishall Reserves face relegation unless something drastic develops in a very quick turnaround. It's not been the best of seasons for the club, which will hopefully pick up the pieces next season.

The Mattishall YCOB FC match scheduled at home against The Grove FC was postponed due to the very heavy overnight downpour.

Fixtures for the weekend: Mattishall first team away to Cromer Town 2.30pm, meet at 12.30pm; Mattishall Reserves home to CEYMS FC, 2.30pm, meet at 1 .30pm; Mattishall YCOB have no fixture arranged
