Mattishall did well against another Anglian Combination Premier Division top three side when they beat Beccles after naming the same side that drew with Blofield the previous week.

Mattishall started the brighter, and following two Lewis's long throws that were well defended by Beccles, Anema's strike was palmed away by keeper Cable for a corner. From Hall's delivery the ball fell to Edwards who smashed Mattishall into yet another early lead.

Hall won the ball in midfield, flicked it to Wooden, who fed Cole, who blazed over. A Lewis break saw him force another corner from which Fulcher, under pressure, volleyed just wide. Another Lewis long throw saw Wooden flick on to Cole whose acrobatic overhead kick was saved by the keeper.

A mis-timed clearance from Pledger presented Woods with a scoring opportunity but his shot flew over the bar as Mattishall dominated the first quarter. Hall found some space but was closed down by McMorran, however on 25 minutes Mattishall doubled their lead. Again was Lewis' long throw into the box set up Wooden whose flicked header beat keeper Cable.

A long clearance from the back saw Cole take a great first touch before firing over as Mattishall continued to push forward, and the remainder of the first half belonged to them as Beccles struggled.

Butwithin 10 minutes of the restart Beccles reduced the arrears when, following a free kick, Martin got the faintest of touches, and the pace of the ball took it past the outstretched dive of Pledger.

On 56 minutes the visitors brought on Holme in place of Woods as they looked to get on level terms. A long clearance saw Clarke get in front of the home defender and forced Pledger into making the save.

In a rare attack a Hall power drive was pushed away by Cable for a corner which was easily cleared, but on 67 minutes Martin found some space on the left only to fire over.

Ben Lewis went past fullback Myhill but unselfishly crossed instead of shooting, and the chance was cleared, while at the other end a deep cross saw Day's glancing header just miss the target as Beccles continued to dominate.

Gary Harbour replaced Lewis with 10 minutes remaining as Mattishall frantically held on to their narrow lead. Christian Harbour replaced Hall and he was straight into the action when he outwitted Barham but pulled his shot wide. Another direct move saw the visitors go close again but Mattishall held on.

Mattishall Reserves entertained Sheringham and narrowly lost 1-0.

There is another double header this week as Mattishall entertain lowly Sprowston, 2pm ko, while the Reserves play St Andrews 4pm.
