MATTISHALL played a nap hand against a side that had won their opening two Anglian Combination Division One fixtures.

It was the perfect response to the previous week's disappointing performance. They are third in the table.

Ben King returned with the influential Rob Connelly and manager Gaven Tipple named himself as a sub.

Mattishall put the home side under early pressure, closing down quickly with some strong challenges, which were harshly penalised by the referee.

Mattishall's rearguard had to be alert to the movement of Willimott and Harwin, the former giving Long Stratton the lead from a penalty, given for a push at the far post by Baldry.

However, Mattishall continued to drive forward and the lead only lasted 10 minutes. The ball broke to Gary Harbour just outside the penalty box and his rasping half-volley went in off a post.

Jason Knights had a clear opportunity when he burst through and tried to lob keeper Manser, but also cleared the upright.

Mattishall took the lead as a result of a goalkeeping error when a Hewitt free-kick looked to have caught several Mattishall forwards offside as the home defence came rushing out - but the ball was dropped by Manser over the line and the referee awarded a goal.

Mattishall continued to press forward and went 3-1 up when, from a melee, the ball broke to Knights, who made no mistake from inside the six-yard box.

Mattishall continued to create chances but could not add to the score as the first half ended.

The second half started with Mattishall continuing to attack in numbers. The fourth goal came when another Harbour long-range effort caught a slight deflection and flew past Manser and into the net before he could move.

Mattishall made a number of changes. Rob Connelly was replaced by Danny Palmer and Danny Allen made way for Benny Macann. And with 15 minutes remaining Gavin Tipple replaced Luke Sutherland.

These changes allowed the home side more possession although Mattishall continued to create chances as the game went from end-to-end.

Long Stratton's Willimott blazed a spot kick for handball high over the bar.

Ben King rounded off the scoring when he deftly scooped the ball home.
