ON the balance of chances Mattishall could have easily taken all three points from the championship hopefuls.

Mattishall were forced into making changes to their back four as a result of unavailability and injury with both Fulcher and Starling affected.

With skipper Lovell still also recovering from injury, manager Tipple looked to the flexibility of squad.

The back four of Lewis, Hill, Palmer and Anema lined up with Edwards returning from suspension and Christian Harbour on the right also in the starting line-up.

Mattishall had the better of the opening exchanges and they took the lead in strange circumstances when a Wooden cross was inexplicably dropped over the line by the home keeper.

Hall then had a good opportunity as he found himself one-on-one with the keeper but shot wide, and Blofield drew level when the left winger went past Lewis before cutting in and blasting an angled drive into the top corner, giving keeper Pledger no chance.

The second half continued in much the same vein with Cole having two one-on-ones with the home keeper but failing to convert, while at the other end Pledger pushed a shot onto a post before the visitors cleared the danger.

On Saturday, Mattishall have their first home fixture since the first week of December when they entertain the league leaders North Walsham ko 2.30pm, while the Reserves visit Hoveton Wherrymen.

Mattishall Reserves entertained Blofield Reserves and ran out 3-1 winners. Scorers were W Stenner, W Dougal, D Reynolds.
