MATTISHALL continued their fine start to their Anglian Combination Premier Division campaign with a 3-0 home win over defending champions Sheringham on Tuesday night.

Mattishall started their league fixtures with a home win last Tuesday night, coming from two goals down.

Most of last season's side have remained at the club with the addition of Brett, Edwards, Fulcher and Sommerfield - all making their Blues debuts.

Brandon had the better off the early exchanges as Mattishall took time to settle, and it was their captain Williams who gave them the lead when he rose to powerfully head home following a corner kick.

They continued to look dangerous although Mattishall were guilty of giving possession away far too easily.

Things got worse for Mattishall when, following a long throw in, Waites got in between two defenders to head home from less than five yards.

Slowly Mattishall began to get a foothold in the game, and following a mazy run in which he went past several players Hall lashed home to reduce the deficit.

What manager Tipple said at half-time certainly did the trick as the second half was nearly all Mattishall. It was no surprise when S Wooden's persistence paid off as he slid the ball into the net.

On the hour Mattishall went in front for the first time when Hall from the edge of the box saw his shot crash against the post only to rebound into the net off keeper Barker.

Sommerfield added a fourth, then Wooden missed the target after rounding the keeper.

Brandon pressed towards the end of the game as several players went down with cramp, having covered all areas of the playing surface.

Mattishall Reserves 3, Watton Reserves 3

Only half the side from last season started the game and the first 20 minutes saw both teams trying to gain the upper hand.

However it was the home side who opened the scoring when C Harbour's stinging cross from an acute angle on the right found its way into the back of the net.

Both sides continued to create chances, although Mattishall should have increased their lead.

The second half started with the visitors pressing for an equaliser, and they were awarded a harsh penalty kick when the goal scorer Harbour was adjudged to have fouled in the area. The kick was easily converted.

Watton soon added a second, and on the hour a third as Mattishall lost a little shape.

However at 3-1 down and with 15 minutes left, a good move ended with debutant Lythgoe scoring.

It was all Mattishall and they created the equaliser when another debutant, Sidell, scored after some good footwork in the box. Mattishall continued to create good openings, none more so than Higgins whose fine header was acrobatically saved.
