WORLD-CLASS motocross returns to Lyng this Sunday, for round five of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship, organised by the Norwich Vikings Motorcycle Club.

Factory-supported teams from Yamaha, KTM, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Honda will be fielding their top riders in both the MX1 and MX2 classes as the series enters the second half of the campaign.

With no other rounds in the Eastern Centre during 2009, this will be the only chance this year to see these top ridersin this region.

Fresh from his recent win at the MX3 world championship race in the Netherlands, PAR Honda's Brad Anderson will be out to increase his lead in the MX1 class of the domestic series. He enjoys a healthy 25 points advantage over 450cc STR Honda mounted James Noble in the title race, but with 50 points available over the two races at Lyng things could all change this weekend.

Both riders have a good record at the Norfolk venue, which has seen them both clinch victories on the tough Cadders Hill track. Both will have to be at their best though, with Kawasaki's Gareth Swanepeol in fine form, and Mildenhall's MVR-D Suzuki teamster Carl Nunn out to improve on his third place in the standings on his home track.

American Zach Osbourne on the UTAG Yamaha, Buildbase CCM's Tom Church and Samsung Yamaha's Mark Jones are all capable of tasting the winner's champagne.

In the MX2 class former champion and Grand Prix winner Stephen Sword already has one hand on the 2009 crown. He has been in imperious form on his KTM machinery and holds a 37-point buffer over Neville Bradshaw. All eyes will be on Mattis Karro on the MVR-D Suzuki who won both races at round three earlier in the season.

Bury St Edmunds' Jake Nicholls has enjoyed an excellent season on his Red Bull KTM and could move into second.

Also on the Lyng programme is the inaugural Veterans' British Motocross Championship. Heading the entry list is former British champion Rob Herring who will go head to head with rival Greg Hanson.

The MX1, MX2, and veterans' classes all have two races during the afternoon programme, with race action getting under way at 12.15pm, after a full morning's qualifying that starts at 9am.

A family ticket (two adults and two children) is just 40, Otherwise admission is 20, concessions 15 and children 5 - children under five-years-old free. Car parking is free.
