New era for Dereham Golf Club

DEREHAM Golf Club has moved into a fresh era with the appointment of a new professional and club secretary.
Duncan Abbott has joined the club from the West Suffolk and has already opened his shop where he offering a custom-fit service for Wilson clubs as well as other makes. He also has a range of lesson options to suit all levels whether they are a beginner or established player and is offering junior coaching sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
He said: “This friendly club with its great parkland course is a fantastic opportunity for me and I jumped at the chance to take up the position. I have been made very welcome and am really enjoying getting involved in the club.”
Dereham-born Dave Caffyn joins as club secretary after a 30-year career in the RAF and brings to the role a wealth of experience as well as his sense of humour.
He said: “I too am really enjoying my role and am looking forward to working with the club to move it forward in these challenging times.”
Club captain Kelvin Cleere said “We are delighted with the appointment of Duncan and Dave who are already very popular with our members and visitors alike.
“We, as a club, are doing all we can to retain our members as well as encouraging new ones and visitors to join us and this is evidenced by applying for Golfmark as well as offering competitive green fee and membership deals.
“Membership is available for £175 for the remainder of our club year to the end of September as well as introducing reduced membership fees for those between 18 and 25.”

Dereham’s juniors’ team visited Sheringham in the KK Smith junior county knockout. They found the course tough on a very blustery day and lost 14 down.
Dereham Ladies played in their closed meeting when 26 played an 18-hole medal round in the morning, followed by nine holes greensomes in the afternoon. There were some excellent scores in both competitions and the excitement of a hole-in-one on the 12th for Elizabeth Bench.
Results. Division One: 1 Elizabeth Bench 87-21-66 ocb, 2 Jean Paskin 87-21-66, 3 Carole Harrisson 86-15-71.
Division Two: 1 Jill Trudgill 87-27-60, 2 Sandra Haw 96-30-66 ocb, 3 Karen Gogay (97-31-66).
Greensomes: Helen Howe and Sheila Brightwell 24 points, Carole Harrisson and Elizabeth Bench 21.
