New year resolutions for Fakenham Town include sharper finishing and cutting out mistakes at the back.

Caretaker manager Neil Jarvis set those goals after Monday night's 2-1 defeat at Downham where he thought the Ghosts deserved to get something out of a game played on an icy pitch.

'Second half we had four or five great chances. It was a little disappointing. There was some really pleasing play second half, some really hard work. We have to be more ruthless in front of goal and cut out silly mistakes defending set pieces.'

Jarvis pointed to a surface which hindered Fakenham's style of play, and the lack of match practice of the players he has brought in from King's Lynn. 'These Lynn boys had not played for six weeks through the Linnets' situation.'

After falling behind, the Ghosts equalised with what Jarvis described as 'a super goal'. Build-up involving Tom McArthy and Jordan Penty set up Julian Delicata for a lobbed effort over the keeper, Delicata's second goal in two games.

But failure to defend properly from a set piece led to Downham's winner.

The result leaves the Ghosts still bottom of the first division but with a chance of avoiding the wooden spoon.

They have three points from 14 games while above them are Ipswich Wanderers with seven more points but from three more games played, Long Melford have 13 points from 18 matches and Stowmarket 14 from 16.

Fans get a chance to see the new-look Fakenham at Clipbush Park on Saturday when March, sitting fifth with 30 points from 18 games, are the visitors (3pm ko).
