NORTH Elmham travelled to Bungay to take on Beccles B in Norfolk League Division Seven and won by 74 runs to leave them second in the table.

Batting first Elmham soon lost Tony Garrod, but a second-wicket partnership of 84 between Grant King and Stephan Malherbe took the score to 91 before Malherbe was out for 36.

King fell to a good catch when the ball reared off a good length and caught the edge, and three further quick wickets fell to leave Elmham 120 for six with 20 overs left to bat.

Steve Kay, playing his first match of the season, joined Iain Sinclair and the pair set about rebuilding the innings, adding 25 before Sinclair was out for 18.

Andy Kay joined his father and the pair batted sensibly before Steve had a rush of blood and was caught for 13.

Andy continued with the tail and made a fine 23. Both Jack Harding and Luke Goddard opened their account for the season, and the Elmham innings closed in the 38th over for 185.

Sinclair and Ant Keeble opened the Elmham attack with Sinclair taking the first three wickets to leave the hosts total 39 from 12 overs.

Keeble captured the next three wickets and Beccles were 62 for six.

Beccles skipper Tim Hoare was batting well scoring 49 from only 40 balls before he tried to hit the returning Sinclair for another boundary and was bowled.

Andy Kay finished off the Beccles' innings with Richie Futter stumping the last two batsmen, and Elmham ran out winners by 74 runs.

Next, Elmham host Hethersett and Tas Valley, supporters welcome, 2pm start.
