In an attempt to continue to raise the appeal of rugby in Dereham, Northgate High School ran their annual rugby tour during the Easter break.

Nineteen Year Eight and Nine pupils and two Sixth Form students travelled to the outskirts of Paris to participate in the annual International Junior Rugby Festival. The touring party wore polo shirts and hooded tops sponsored by Birds Teamwear.

As well as participating in three days of rugby, everyone enjoyed time out at Disneyland Paris, with evening entertainment at the Davy Crockett Ranch. In between the two days of competition, the players were able to enjoy a morning of coaching led by international players including current England hooker Rob Webber.

All of the boys had the opportunity to acquire new skills and learn what it takes to play at the top end of the game.

The competition was extremely tough, with opposition coming from Manchester Grammar, St George's, Denstone College and Bath Rugby Under-14s.

Northgate lost a hard-fought game in the plate final to St George's, having taken the lead late in the first half.

Although there was limited success on the pitch during the tournament, there was notable improvement in all of the boys' understanding and application of the game.

There was also time for some rugby tour traditions – a daily 'kangaroo court' conducted by Chief Prosecutor Llewellyn and the fearsome Judge Darlow.

Conor Ash and Sam Inston were presented with the outstanding players of the tour award, with Patrick Gregory and Matthew Palmer being awarded as the most improved players. All players who travelled were commended for their outstanding attitude and approach to the tour.
