NORTHGATE High from Dereham defeated King Edward School, King's Lynn in the final of the Norfolk Schools 20/20 competition.In the match at Fakenham Cricket Club's Highfield Lawn ground, King Edward batted first and made a good start with an opening stand of 67, but in the final stages of the overs they lost five wickets with their score in the nineties to finish after 20 overs on 99-8.

In the match at Fakenham Cricket Club's Highfield Lawn ground, King Edward batted first and made a good start with an opening stand of 67, but in the final stages of the overs they lost five wickets with their score in the nineties to finish after 20 overs on 99-8.

For Northgate, Tim Weber took 2-16 and Nic Cains 2-14.

Northgate also made a good start and the opening pair of Lewis Denmark and Lewis Bates put on over 60.

But in attempting to keep up to the scoring rate Northgate also lost wickets, which led to an exciting finish.

With Denmark caught for 37, Tim Weber (11) and Alex Bates kept the score moving, but wickets were also lost.

Six runs were needed off the final over and Hayden Gibbons hit the winning runs with three balls to spare.

Northgate now go forward into the national competition as Norfolk's representatives.
