DEREHAM Otters travelled to Thetford to compete in the Thetford Open gala which was the last big competition for swimmers to improve their qualifying times before the county championships.

All the swimmers were competing as individuals with trophies for the top six finishers in each race and their points going forward for a team competition at the end of the competition.

The Otters were well up in the medals with wins coming from Benjamin Whitbourn, Jed Snell, Keenan Stokes, Lauren Burton, Sean Watson and Sophia Horton-Jones.

Second places went to Serena Aris, Zoe Snell and Rimini Chettleburgh and third places to Chris Searle, Matthew Surman and Laura Jones.

Other top-six finishes also came from Emma Seaman, Anthony Buckley, Laura Rumsey, Daniel Rumsey and Ziggy Swann.

In the team competition, 19 clubs were represented and the Otters came a very creditable second behind a strong team from Boston.
