That's the message from Dereham Cricket Club chairman Neil “Buzz” Irons.

Members have been busy during the winter improving the Norwich Road clubhouse and Irons hopes the efforts off the field will be repeated on it this summer.

“Wow, what a difference! Everyone who has seen the clubhouse has made a comment which makes you feel very proud of what we have achieved. This year is going to be massive for us. We have a fantastic youth base, set up new coaches and managers.

“Our adult teams should this season improve on the past season, all the youngsters are older and stronger and eager to get going.”

Dereham have organised a tour to Nottingham in July as well as the annual cricket week in August and there are also plans for a mini Twenty20 midweek league and a special game against the Light Dragoons.

Irons said: “Our pitch facilities are second to none. Everyone who visited last season made comments on the quality of the square and the speed of the outfield. The hours we now spend working on the ground is now showing its worth.”

He added: “Our relationship with Broadland Housing was always going to be a sticky point after the Pavilion Way housing site was built. We have monthly meetings with Broadland who we work very closely with.”

Irons said the club was looking for sponsorship and hiring out the clubhouse.

He added: “Our final committee meeting was held last week before the start of the season. I felt so proud to lead this club forward. If there's a job that needs doing or to help, hands now immediately go up, I could not ask for any more.”

We have a special centre spread on Dereham CC with the first and second team fixtures for the season in the paper this week.
