Dereham recorded one of their best results of their hockey season, winning 4-2 at Wisbech to give their bid to avoid relegation to Men's East League Premier B a massive boost.

After conceding first, Dereham hit back to lead 2-1 at the interval, with Michael Timm and Lee Hoggett scoring the goals.

Wisbech got back on level terms early in the second period but Dereham again had the answer, with efforts from Timm and Mark Braybrook earning them a well-deserved success.

It was an excellent team effort from a young Dereham side, with Sam Plater particularly impressive.

In the Women's League East, Dereham kept up their challenge for promotion to the National League with a 6-0 win against Sudbury on a spring-like afternoon.

Evie Van Poortvliet scored four goals and could have had more if the umpires had penalised Sudbury for the incessant stick tackling.

Van Poortvliet opened the scoring from a short-corner routine in the eighth minute and made it 2-0 from open play where she made the defence look ordinary.

A pass out of defence to Van Poortvliet saw her again slice through the opposition and run round the goalie to score her third, and Hannah Palmer added another as Dereham went into the second half 4-0 up.

Sudbury put up a better defence and their goalkeeper, despite the score, saved shot after shot. Van Poortvliet broke through after 20 minutes to make it 5-0.

A penalty should have been awarded after Palmer appeared to have been taken out by the keeper, but the umpire saw it differently.

Donna Causton scored the last from a short corner as she cleverly lifted the ball over the keeper.
