Survival setback for Bradenham Wanderers FC

Bradenham’s survival hopes suffered a setback on Saturday with defeat at Anglian Combination Division One leaders Dersingham.
The first 20 minutes saw the visitors create several half chances, but none were converted. The hosts were down to 10 men after 26 minutes when their big centre forward was red-carded for a foul on Bradenham defender Joe Steele.
Despite being one short, it was the home side who took the lead after a corner was deflected off a forward and into the net.
The second half produced very few chances and both keepers were relatively untroubled. Dersingham are a big, physical side and despite being advised to keep the ball on the ground, the Bradenham players still seemed to persist in hitting high balls which the home defence dealt with comfortably.
Certainly the visitors didn’t use the extra man to their advantage and on 86 minutes Dersingham went two up after a real mix up in the Bradenham defence.
An improvement in both attitude and level of performance will be required if Bradenham are to gain enough points to avoid relegation in their remaining games.
Bradenham Wanderers Res 0, Watton Utd Res 0
This Anglian Combination Division Five encounter was a highly charged game with both sides putting in plenty of effort but with a limited amount of quality football.
Watton missed a sitter after only three minutes, before on 26 minutes Foster went on a good run for the hosts but his final effort was too high. The next chance fell to Gamble whose free-kick cleared the bar.
Sexton took a free-kick for Bradenham on 56 minutes which again easily cleared the bar, and on 67 minutes Spalding in the home goal made an excellent save from a visiting forward.
The game was littered with free-kicks for petty fouls, and neither side could muster up a clear cut chance to gain the valuable three points.
