IN the Dereham and district table tennis championships at Swanton Morley Village Hall, Nigel Houseago took both senior singles competitions.

In the veterans' final he beat Keith Hunt 11-9, 11-8, 11-7. In the final event of the afternoon he took on Alan Nichols in the open singles, a player he had never beaten before. Housago came out on top, 13-11, 4-11, 12-10, 11-6.

Other notable performances came from Matthew Hubbard, who narrowly lost to Mark Bishop in the Division Two singles, 5-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8, 4-11. Having lost the first two legs, he made a spirited fight back to level at two legs each before Mark took command again.

Matthew had another five setter in the U17 final. With each leg going alternately, the final leg went right to the wire, with Matthew taking it 16-14.

It was also a day for the Hodges sisters, Jenny and Sophie. With both in the handicap final, having beaten some experienced players, they had a hard tussle with Sophie just coming out on top 31-27.
