Dereham swimmer, 13-year-old Sam Rose, completed an impressive collection of silverware when he collected the trophy as Norfolk County Championships' top male swimmer in the 14 year age group.
Sam achieved the award for his combined successes during the four-day championships in January. This year they took place for the first time at Norwich Sportspark.
Sam took first in the 1500m, 400m, 200m, 100m and 50m freestyle, 200m, 100m and 50m backstroke, the 100m and 50m butterfly and the 400m, 200m and 100m medley relays. In the breaststroke he was second in the 100m and 50m and third in the 200m.
Impressively, his times also meant he was fastest in the 16 and under age group in eight of the 16 events in which he took part. This alone yielded eight annual trophies, bearing the names of previous winners dating back to the early 1970s.
Second place in the 14 year age group went to Sam's fellow Northgate High School pupil Callum Stedman. In third place was his team mate at West Norfolk Swimming Club, Freddie Laws.
With the long course (50m pool) season in full swing, Sam has already qualified in all 16 events for the East Region Regional Championships in June, for the third successive year. He is optimistic that he will be quick enough to compete in the National Championships at Sheffield the following month.
On Saturday he began preparations for the forthcoming open water season but indoors at Basildon. This is the first of two open water talent camps, run by East Swimming.
Sam's selection arises from success outdoors last year, where he came fourth in 13 year age group at the British National open water 1.5k event at Sheffield in July. He then went on to take silver in the joint 13/14 year British Championship event, when he finished as fastest 13-year-old in the one-mile event in the Serpentine in Hyde Park in September.
On Sunday he joined fellow Norfolk swimmers selected to represent the county in the regional inter-counties gala against Suffolk, at Norwich Sportspark. Despite their best efforts, Norfolk were beaten.
