Mattishall 1, Loddon Utd 2
Mattishall suffered a third successive league defeat as they were beaten at home by struggling Loddon in the Anglian Combination Premier Division.
The hosts went straight onto the offensive, forcing a series of corners and constantly pushing hard to create an opener. After 16 minutes, Joe Edwards hit home after good work from the midfield.
Mattishall tried desperately to extend their lead, but Loddon gradually got into the match. Their tall players were dangerous at set pieces and on the half hour mark, after the hosts failed to clear, a headed goal brought the scores level.
Mattishall tried to gain the upper hand but played to Loddon’s strength, allowing their defenders to clear any danger easily as it remained 1-1 at half-time.
The second half got under way and within 30 seconds Loddon went 2-1 up. Mattishall gave the ball away too easily, enabling Loddon to score what proved to be the winning goal.
This was a very lacklustre performance from the hosts against a team who have been struggling of late, and the fact that a number of players were still away on holiday did not help their cause.
Mattishall are away to Dersingham Rovers this weekend, kick-off 2pm.
Aylsham Wdrs 2, Wells Tn 3
The improving Seasiders travelled to the Aylsham Recreation Ground to play the hosts for the first time in several years.
As in previous weeks, the signs of being stronger in all departments were evident. Wells were creating chances but failing to convert these into goals, and with half-time looming Aylsham broke the dead-lock against the run of play. The forward found space to round Armiger and slotted home into the empty goal.
Wells pushed forward and Daniel Grocott equalised, using his strength to power through and slot home.
The hosts went ahead again in first half injury time to leave the Seasiders behind in a match they had controlled.
A neat pass from Grocott found Jody Murfit on 55 minutes and he slotted home to level the score at 2-2.
On 70 minutes Joe Harrison skipped past three defenders to score from an acute angle and the Wells defence then held firm to secure victory.
Wells face Norwich CEYMS at Beach Road on Saturday week.
