AN 83rd minute goal against a home side reduced to nine men saw the Magpies through this FA Vase second round tie against Ridgeons Premier rivals.

Dereham were without striker Chris Bacon, who was cup-tied while K&P were at full strength, writes Rene Kendal.

In the third minute the Magpies won a corner on the left, Buhlemann rose well at the near post and powered a downward header goalward from Terrington's centre with keeper Woodcock diving to his left to make a great save.

After an even spell Kirkley had Tacon and Stone booked within the space of two minutes as Dereham pushed the home side back into their own half. Kirkley had their first chance 16th minute with a cross from the right being headed out to Stone who hooked a 20-yard cross-shot just wide. The same player then beat Ollie Willis on the left before delivering a pacy low centre that Eastoe-Smith diverted for a corner. From Fox's flag kick Cole headed powerfully over the top.

A strong run down the left by Henderson won Kirkley another corner but Fox's deep cross failed to trouble the visiting defence. Fox then overhit a free-kick from the right with keeper Higgs again not forced to save. In the 42nd minute Smith and Terrington combined to set up Beaumont with the striker's 22-yard curler comfortably claimed by Woodcock.

Young Dereham defender Eastoe-Smith was booked for a foul on Harvey-Cooper. The Kirkley wide player then clipped the top of the Dereham bar following a cross from the right as the half ended goalless.

Stone caused problems for Dereham at the start of the second half when his low cross reached Harvey-Cooper, who looked likely to net before Ollie Willis made a timely block.

In the 50th minute the Magpies came within inches of netting. After receiving Smith's superb ball from midfield, Howell burst forward and chipped the advancing Woodcock - but the ball just skimmed the left-hand post. Beaumont chased a ball over the top and gained the ball from Woodcock but saw his shot cleared off the line by Jefford.

Ollie Willis went on a penetrating run that took him into the home box before he was denied by a last-ditch challenge. K&P won a corner on the right with Cole having a header cleared off the line by Smith before firing the loose ball into Higgs' arms.

In the 60th minute K&P's Daniel Tacon was dismissed for a second yellow card following a foul on Sam Willis.

As play switched ends Jefford made a crucial interception to thwart Beaumont.

K&P were then reduced to nine men. After getting away with a late challenge on keeper Higgs, home skipper Fox received a second yellow for another poor tackle on Smith.

Ollie Willis then crossed from the right with McGee heading the ball out to Stuart Garner who struck a superb 20-yard left-foot drive across goal and into the corner of the net giving Woodcock no chance in the 83rd minute.
