Dereham Neatherd U16 rugby team played Thetford Grammar School U16 in the Norfolk Schools Plate final under lights at North Walsham and won 29-5 after leading 22-0 at half-time.

The Neatherd forwards dominated the first half, with the backs showing plenty of pace.

Thetford were unable to make an impression in the face of a stiff Dereham defence - who tackled fiercely, especially in the centres.

Neatherd increased their lead almost from the kick-off in the second half with the forwards again making good ground before the backs showed some good handling and finishing to score in the corner. Thetford replied with a good try following some poor decision making and missed tackles from Neatherd.

The game then flowed end to end with Dereham looking the more likely to score. Neatherd captain Marcus Evans said: 'The team were really up for this match. We were determined to pick up some silverware as this is our last year at Neatherd. I'm really proud of all the players.'
