Liam Healy, a student at Wayland Community High School, has just returned from Rhayader in mid Wales, where he has been training for his 3 Star White Water.
He got a good report from the coach of his group on how he has progressed on his first white water trip.
As a Cadet Leader with his canoe club, Dereham Canoe Group, Liam will be assisting the clubs BCU qualified coaches at the 'come and try' day at the Fakenham College swimming pool on Saturday, April 18 between 3pm to 5 pm, and when they start the river lessons in May, where he will help train members of the club in either the Star awards or with the Paddle Power scheme for the under 14's. Liam hopes to progress on to become a Level 1 Coach when he is 16.
Dereham Canoe Group is a family based British Canoe Union affiliated canoe club based at Swanton Morley, paddling on the river Wensum, covering the Breckland district, with a good range of modern equipment available for new people to the club to take up this family activity.
For further information either look on the clubs web site www.derehamcanoeing.co.uk or contact the club secretary Lynda Turner on 01362 637153 or lynda.turner@tesco.net
