Young Dereham runners make their mark at Shouldham Warren

Last Sunday saw 14 junior Dereham runners take to the woods in Shouldham Warren for the second Ryston runners Cross Country Grand Prix of the season.

There were three debuts, eight top 10 finishes across the age groups and nine personal bests.

Ashley Jarvis (U-20) ran in the senior men’s race of 9k where he came in 22nd in a time 40.29 while in the U17 girls’ 4.5k race Ellie Foster won with a PB of 21.20 from second placed Abi Foster in 22.37.

The U15 and U13 age groups both ran a distance of 3k and in the U15 girls’ race Erin McNulty crossed the line in fourth place in 12.47 while Beth Barrett got herself a PB of 14.50 to finish 10th. In the boys’ race Sam Anderton came in ninth place with 12.44 (PB).

The U13 girls race saw Sienna Coe finishing in 14th place with 15.25 and for the boys Luke Gilding got a PB of 12.31 coming in fifth place. There was also a PB for Jacob Last of 14.04 in seventh.

The U11 girls’ 2k race had Imogen Davey finish eighth in 9.49 and Anya McNulty in 16th place equalling her PB of 11.10. In 19th place was a Eliza Adcock setting her PB of 11.50 on her debut.

The U11 boys’ race had Zachary Pollard coming 15th in 9.33 and George Costello 20th with a time of 9.52, both on their debuts. In 28th place was Ethan Barrett in 12.32. The U9 race (800m) saw Daniel Adcock come 25th in 3.56.

Meanwhile 15 North Norfolk Beach Runners were among 775 who ran the Snetterton Half Marathon on the Snetterton race circuit at the weekend.

In dry conditions, all started on supersoft compound trainers and stuck with them throughout, the first Beach Runner home being Nicholas Dash in 1:40.39 for 82nd place in the M-Senior and 174th overall.

First lady Beach Runner was Anita Bullen in 1:49.28 for 18th in the F40 to 49 and 309th place overall.

The club were well represented at the Leathes Prior grand prix series awards evening.

The successful athletes were Phil Hurr, first 60-64; Jim Hayes gold medal, postal marathon 65+, Chris Parker, second Senior; Neil Adams, second M40-45; Brenda Kinch, silver medal, postal marathon F 65+; Charlotte Neale, first Female Senior and overall postal marathon County Champion and Sal Ryder, who received a special memento prize for completing all 10 grand prix races, one of only three runners to do so.
