A star of the Midlands club circuits is waiving his fee for a fundraising concert in Wells to support Coastwatch.

That's not just because he thinks the role of Coastwatch in helping to protect lives on our shores and at sea is a vital service - it's because one of the volunteer watchkeepers is vocalist Mark Shure's adopted brother, too.

Del Loydall is known widely as a former fisherman. Not so well known, though, is that he was also an entertainer for many years, sometimes in a band called Western State.

Often he worked with Mark in those days.

So, when Mark heard that Del had arranged the concert with the singing duo Exit, he phoned up with a message: “Hey, Bro - you should have asked me!”

Del was only too happy to make amends and ask him straightaway, and Mark agreed to banish those winter blues with a post-Valentine's evening entertainment at The

Maltings community hall in Staithe Street on Friday, February 15.

Mark Shure's vocal style and range features popular songs from the 1960s to the present day.

Will he be joined on stage by his brother? “I'll be managing tickets on the door,” said Del. “But there's just a chance he'll talk me into it.”

Tickets are £3 for Coastwatch members and £5 for anyone else keen to support those who run the lookout at Wells beach.

The event runs from 7.30-11.30pm.

You can book your tickets in advance from Del on 01328 728795 or buy them on the door.

There will be a licensed bar.
