A one day chance to glimpse at life behind the scenes on Norfolk's longest preservation railway line is being held this month.

The special event at the Mid Norfolk Railway will include giving people the chance to have a go at driving a diesel engine on the line.

There will be guided commentaries on the trains for visitors and tours of the station buildings - including the signal box and yard.

To give a full overview of life on the once busy commercial Great Eastern Railway line, there will also be demonstration freight trains and goods handling demonstrations.

Trains on the line, which runs between Dereham and Wymondham, will run on the blue timetable.

The day starts at 10.30am at Dereham with freight and goods handling with the first passenger train leaving at 11am.

Driver experiences will be available at Dereham from 11.45am to 12.23pm.

The last train will be the 14.45 from Wymondham, freight and goods handling will end at 3.50pm.

Entry to the site is free although charges apply to the train rides to Wymondham.
