GRESSENHALL Green will be the setting for St Mary's Church's traditional grand fete, which will be bigger and better than ever.

It will be held on Saturday, May 31, from 2-5pm, and will be opened by the Right Rev

James Langstaff, Bishop of Lynn. This will be preceded by a peal of bells from the church recorded specially for the occasion to mark the successful completion of the church's 10-bell peal.

This year around 45 stalls will be on display organised by the church, the village community and local charities - nearly all under cover. Every aspect of local life will be represented, from playgroups to garden club, woad production to crafts, cat charities to cosmetics and jewellery in addition to the usual cakes, plants, preserves, objets d'art, raffle and teas.

There will be a barrel organ, historic photo exhibition, vintage vehicle display, art exhibition and pygmy goats.

The fancy dress competition, Pirates and Princesses, will start at 2pm for the younger children, with the fun dog show at 2.30. Exhibits from an Art Attack painting competition will be

on display.

The fete will be masterminded by Ted Turney, now in his 90th year, and Graham Griffiths will be the commentator.

And on Sunday, June 1, back on the green at 3pm, there will be a songs of praise service. Bring chairs and a picnic tea. The service will be led by the Rev Kevin Blogg, and the speaker will be the Right Rev James Langstaff, Bishop of Lynn. The band will be led by Johnathan White, organist at St Mary's Church.
