Its boy meets girl storyline set against hi-energy music and dance The High School Musical will be presented by Fakenham High students early next month.

The 45-strong cast of youngsters aged 13-18 has been having a great time in rehearsals ready for the public performances on March 6, 7 and 8.

There is considerable interest in the show because it is the first major musical that the school's head of music and the show's musical director has presented for eight years. The cast will be accompanied by a seven-piece band.

Musical director Sylvia Newton said there was a lot of enthusiasm among the students for the show which is very much of today, following the Disney success of the film of the same name.

There are four main leads in the show with 16-year-old Luke Goddard playing Troy and 17-year-old Alex Kirby playing Gabriella. Toni Strong, 16, plays Sharpey and 18-year-old Christian Hunt plays Ryan.

“The cast have been thoroughly enjoying the rehearsals it is such an up-beat lively show and I hope the audiences will be equally enthusiastic and dancing in the aisles,” said Ms Newton. The show is being directed by Jenny Soddy.

Tickets at £5 for adults and £3 for concessions are available on the door at each performance.
