The “pianoless” Gerry Mulligan Quartet is one of the most famous jazz line-ups ever; and a British quartet does a fine job of recreating those sounds. The Andy Panayi Quartet, Wednesday's visitors to Dereham Jazz Society at Lakeside Country Club, Lyng, combines the leader's baritone sax with Mark Nightingale's fluent trombone to breathe new life into those famous Mulligan numbers like Line For Lyons and Bernie's Tune, backed up by SimonWoolf (bass) and Steve Brown (drums).
