The Wells lifeboat crew is hosting a Christmas carol service on Sunday, 1 December,) to raise funds for the RNLI ahead of its nationwide fundraising SOS day.

Entitled Sing Our Songs, the event will start at 6pm with a traditional church service held by the lifeboat chaplain the Rev Tony Douglas followed by Christmas carols led by Wells Churches Together choir and music from the Fakenham Town band.

It takes the theme of the annual SOS day that takes place on January 30 2009 when people across the UK and Ireland will take part in a range of fundraising events to raise money for the RNLI.

There will be free car parking at the beach car park and crew will be on hand to show the way and a pathway will be flattened in the sand for people to walk across the beach to the service.

Refreshments will be available including mince pies donated by Tesco. There will also be stalls and gifts for anyone needing to buy last-minute Christmas presents.

Wells RNLI coxswain mechanic Allen Frary said: 'This is a great opportunity for us to combine the Christmas spirit with supporting a worthwhile cause. The funds raised from SOS day go towards keeping our volunteer lifeboat crews fully equipped and trained. “

It is hoped the RNLI Christmas tree which featured in the Christmas Tree Festival at Fakenham Parish Church will be on display, provided it can be moved intact.

It is also the first time that Tony Douglas has hosted an RNLI carol service so the lifeboat crew are really hoping for some strong local support.
