FANCY a bracing weekend stroll on the coast and doing some good in the process?

A group of friends from the Shipdham and Cranworth areas is organising its second annual yomp for the spring bank holiday weekend and welcomes any extra walking companions. Last time around, a handful of them tackled a good stretch of the Peddars Way from Ringstead and raised about £800 for the How Hill Trust, in the Norfolk Broads. This time, numbers expected to take part have swelled to around a dozen and the hope is to raise about £1,000 for the Alzheimer's Society by walking 47 miles of the Norfolk Coast Path, again setting off from Ringstead and heading to Cromer over two days: Saturday and Sunday, May 23 and 24.

Beanie Brown, of Cranworth, one of the organisers, said they would break the walk at Wells and people were free either to head back home for the night or find accommodation on the coast. “We're all the wrong side of 40, and I dare say I'll be at the back. If anyone wants to join us they'll be very welcome,” she added.

A meeting for any interested walkers will take place at the Pound Green Hotel, Shipdham, on Monday at 7.30pm. If you can't be there but would still like to join the walk, call Beanie on 01362 820068.
